Primal Quest Utah was an extreme event in an extreme environment. I showed up to support the teams using our new modular pack and start field testing a solar powered airconditioned 10X10 tent. Moab Utah in late June is a great place to do just that. The race directors were kind enough to allow me to run along side the race once it started and set up the solar airconditioner for heat relief at the transition areas. I ran alongside for 5 extra days until a sandstorm took out the frame at TA 8. It was an incredible experience, the volunteers were awesome, the racers inspiring, and the course epic. My goal was to test the concept of a mobile solar power cooling station and Primal Quest gave me the best situation possibly in which to test the concept. In the end it cooled the inside but the desert won. I learned tricks from my new desert friends and will return with the next generation heat relief trauma tent for medical use. It proves to me that Adventure races and racers are the ones pushing the boundries of human endurance, capabilities and gear. There is no better place to find the best in people and yourself.
